A close read of Lord of the Rings is referenced on this podcast. Where can I find those episodes? I tried looking through the archived episodes and somehow couldn't find the LOR conversations.
I haven't quite finished this episode so perhaps it is addressed later, but my question about the number of dwarves was never about why there were so many but why there weren't more. There are clearly more dwarves to be had within a number of days' march from the mountain, so why weren't they involved in the first place? I have many ideas about this (not the least of which that the story would not be nearly as interesting and a bit unwieldy to write), but too many? That thought never entered my head.
I just asked my children what they remember liking about The Hobbit. We read it with them a number of years ago. My youngest, who was probably 4 when we read it, said she really liked Bilbo the Rabbit. My husband and I just collapsed into laughter as we realized she thought Bilbo was a bunny for the entire tale!
