Every time I read The Great Gatsby, I'm most drawn to Daisy. I think she knows she's unhappy but has no capacity to find real meaning. During the shirt scene, I think something breaks in her. To have a fling with Gatsby would've been fine, but this man worships her, and I think she knows she is neither worthy of it nor able to respond in kind.
