Thoroughly enjoyed this episode. This is my first time reading Tess.

Also, just finished the episode- it’s interesting to me that Hardy didn’t care for the clergy (and Christianity?) and yet the whole first chapter reminds me of James and warnings about the tongue. How such a small organ can set things on fire.

Really enjoying having you back on this podcast, KSP!

I can’t say I am fully enjoying Tess (except for the prose) because my red flags are waving wildly and my inner cheerleader is saying “Run! Run!” 😂😂 But it is a BEAUTIFULLY written book!

This is my first time reading Tess and I’m so glad you chose it, because it’s been on my bookshelf for years and I just somehow never got around to reading it. I don’t know what happens other than what’s told in the summary on the back cover; hoping for no spoilers in the podcast! You all do a great job, thanks so much!

This is the first Close Reads I’m doing on time instead of months (or years) late. I first read Tess as a school assignment in 9th grade. I definitely did not fully appreciate it. I’m loving the book so far on the re-read, my perspective as a mother is very different than it was as a 14 year old girl

This is not only my first read of Tess, but also my first time joining in a Close Reads book. I’m very excited and am devouring it as the rain is pouring down and electricity is out. Thankful for IPhone flashlight ☺️ I could hardly wait for this podcast to be released! So insightful, thank you thank you!

What a delightful introduction to Tess of the D’Urbervilles. I’m reading this book for the first time, and Hardy’s writing drew me into the story. Your discussion has given me much to think about and to look for as I continue reading. I’m glad to be reading along with all of you.
