It’s time to answer listener questions about Everything Sad Is Untrue and we have the great honor of doing that alongside the man himself, Daniel Nayeri.
I keep thinking about the question that got away. All respect to Daniel Nayeri, but I feel like he really missed this one. I can’t seem to find the time stamp on the podcast or the question, so I’m assuming it came from David.
What a delight! I think an obvious choice for the 2024 Close Reads list is to read either One Thousand and One Nights or the Shahnameh and have Daniel Nayeri on again as the guest.
Hi. I recently became aware of the Catherine Project. How amazing is that group! I was wondering if the reading groups meet online? I didn't see that answer on their website. Thanks and yes, I already am ordering your suggestion for A Nights! thanks, Dee
Sorry. Have been offline of late. Yes, Catherine Project reading groups meet over zoom. They are wonderful way to close read texts you find interesting and exchange ideas with some truly amazing people. I can’t recommend it enough if you have an extra few hours per week to commit to the reading schedule and the once per week (usually) meetings.
To the person who is interested in reading Arabian Nights, I cannot recommend the translation by Yasmin Seale highly enough!!!! I am currently reading it with a reading group through the Catherine Project and it is probably one of the best books I’ve ever purchased! (And I have a serious book addiction) The book is a little on the expensive side, but it is absolutely gorgeous, extremely well researched, and very approachable for the lay reader. I have enjoyed each and every page!!!!

Thanks to the Close Reads Crew....amazing conclusion to the reading of Everything Sad is Untrue. So far this is my favorite book of the year.

Well this was a delight. Sean getting dunked on was a highlight.
We need a moderator do deal with inflammatory comments like these.
I need to speak my truth, Sean. #dontcensorme
