A quick editorial note: One of our 2022 highlights was hosting author Kate Albus for an event at the shop. Kate is the author of A Place to Hang the Moon, one of the best middle grade books to come out in recent years. And one of the things I have noticed while getting to know Kate is how many middle grade titles she is always reading. So I asked her if she would be willing to write something periodically for Close Reads HQ subscribers, recommending a really great new book for that age group. She’s reliable, she’s thoughtful, and she knows what it’s like to be a mom in search of good books. Thankfully she said yes. This is the first of what I hope will be a long-running feature. Enjoy!
