Happy Thanksgiving Eve friends!
We’ve got much to be thankful for around here, not the least of which is y’all—the members of this lovely community. Every day I am reminded how lucky we are to be part of what Wendell Berry would call a membership. It’s an honor to be amongst you; thanks for being part of this endeavor. Thanks for listening, for visiting Goldberry, for buying on Bookshop.org, for your words of encouragement, for telling friends about us, for subscribing to CRHQ, for loving books. May God grant you a truly delightful and joyful Thanksgiving holiday (with a bit of happy reading mixed in with the feasts).
Thanks also to the whole Close Reads team: To Tim, Heidi, and Sean for their insights and wisdom; to Logan for his flexibility and kindness; to Graeme for his creativity and bad dad jokes. And to all of them for their friendship and camaraderie. They’re truly great people.
Updates
Before we take tomorrow off and then dive into a huge weekend at the bookstore, I want to drop a quick update regarding coming attractions. Here are the bullet points for the next several weeks:
Next Monday, 11/27, we will be recording the Q&A for A Canticle for Liebowitz which we will subsequently upload as quickly as we can (while not killing Logan).
Our next book, Things Fall Apart by China Achebe, will begin on December 4th.
**updated**
12/11 - First half
12/18 - Second half
Sometime Christmas Week - Q&A
We had intended to record another episode on Kristin Lavransdatter today, but we ultimately decided it was too much given our various crazy schedules so we’re pushing that back to next week. I apologize if that throws a wrench in your Black Friday listening plans. Here’s the updated schedule for the rest of book one:
December 1: Part 2, chapters 1-4
December 15: Part 2, chapters 5-8
December 29: Part 3, chapters 1-5
January 12: Part 3, chapters 6-8
We will drop our annual episode on our favorite books of the year right before Christmas. Exact date TBD.
We do plan to drop a few movie and short fiction focus episode over the next month, so hopefully those can fill in for some postponements.
And, finally, next Tuesday, 11/28, at 9 pm eastern, we’ll be hosting another live poetry discussion, this time on two of William Carlos Williams most famous poems.
If you’re subscribed to CRHQ you’ll get the link to join that day. Not subscribed? Could give yourself a Thanksgiving present . . .
That’s all for now. Thanks for listening, happy reading, and happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Close Reads/Goldberry Books!
Oooh William Carlos Williams! I'm excited.
