I don't understand goat yoga. We hired a goat herd to clear an overgrown section of our yard a few years ago and they were efficient at it because they eat everything, continuously. But they also smell strongly (like extremely strong goat cheese) and there are byproducts of their continuous eating, so I just can't imagine frolicking with them.

I’m sure in part I’m scarred by Steinbeck’s “Cathy,” but I cannot make East of Eden stop echoing in my brain as I read Wuthering Heights.

I'd love to hear recommendations on biographies for any of the Brontes 👀 soooo excited to read this with y'all!

I didn't listen to the entire Great Gatsby discussion, but when I read Wuthering Heights last year, I was struck by certain parallels between it and The Great Gatsby. I find it interesting that these two books are being discussed back to back, and I was wondering if this is something that came up then or that might be addressed as the Wuthering Heights discussion moves forward.

After the conversation, I would like to say that I really enjoy Anne Brontë‘s books as well. She may not be as technically proficient as Charlotte and she is less broody than Emily, but Tenant of Wildfell Hall and Agnes Grey are both good reads. I will admit that calling Agnes Grey “Austen light” is mostly fair. Tenant of Wildfell Hall has a lot of overlap with Wuthering Heights- it is a frame novel with a dysfunctional family- but the difference is that characters are trying to escape the cycle instead of being stuck in it. The question becomes can you escape it? Or will it follow you? That is also a compelling contemplation.

That aside, I am looking forward to this series. I first read Wuthering Heights in middle school and this is my 3rd or 4th reading.

Although I recognize Emily's genius and uniqueness, she is a little too Gothic for me to find her as relatable as Charlotte and Anne. I love Villette.

This may be one of my favorite books and series you've done yet! I'm feeling even more vindicated in my love after hearing Heidi's thoughts on this episode 😏

Off topic, but does anyone know if Closereads did a series on Dantes Inferno? I love listening to these guys.

They have not but Baylor’s Honors College has a free series on YouTube called 100 Days of Dante that is excellent!
